What is a Diamond Certificate?

A diamond certificate, also known as a grading report, verifies a diamond’s specifications, including its color grade, carat weight, clarity grade, and cut grade. It is crucial to never buy a diamond without a certificate, as it ensures the quality and authenticity of the stone. The most reputable grading laboratories include the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the American Gem Society (AGS), Solitaire Gemmological Laboratories (SGL) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI).

A diamond’s cost is determined by its objective characteristics, commonly known as the 4Cs: Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat. The interplay between these four factors determines a diamond’s overall value. While it is often assumed that carat weight is the most important factor, color, cut, and clarity have a more significant impact on a diamond’s appearance.
