Clarity measures the presence of natural inclusions and surface blemishes within a diamond.
Since diamonds form under intense pressure, most contain minor imperfections. These characteristics are evaluated using magnification.
Clarity Scale
- FL – Flawless
- IF – Internally Flawless
- VVS1/VVS2 – Very Very Slightly Included
- VS1/VS2 – Very Slightly Included
- SI1/SI2 – Slightly Included
- I1-I3 – Included
Many VS and SI diamonds appear eye-clean, meaning inclusions are not visible without magnification.
